The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) National Council elected Dr. Robert M. Gates, former secretary of defense and former director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), as the organization's national president. Dr. Gates spoke to the Scouting family during the organization's National Annual Meeting.

Boy Scout Troops in northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana may have to get a new patch for their uniforms. Boy Scouts of America is considering a proposal to consolidate four area scout councils into one. WDCB News reporter Brian O'Keefe spoke with Matt Thornton, he’s acting CEO for the Chicago Area Council, Des Plaines Valley Council, the Northwest Suburban Council, and the Calumet Council. Thornton says the merger makes sense for the organization.
